Here is the last Fiscal Year (FY 25-26) Gross Receipts Tax income reported by the New Mexico Tax and Revenue Department. May and June of 25 are included to fill for reporting that has yet to arrive for 2026.
The proposed FY 26-27 budget is presently at $10.2 million. This means that there is a possible $1.7 million dollar deficit in this years proposed budget.
The last three out of four annual budgets have been between $10 and nearly $13 Million dollars. State Tax Reporting has been consistently hovering between $7 and $8 million annually. Even with additional state or federal funds this spending seems unlikely to be sustainable.
The New Mexico Department of Finance also has sent this years proposed budget back to the town for corrections and adjustments, so we shall see what happens this budget season as the final budget is yet to be approved.
Without complete audits and with recent repeated personnel changes, accounting could be off by large sums of money.
Even with an over $11 million dollar bank when the new Commission Manager government took the reins January of 2022, the year to year actual totals are not making sense, and point to crisis now, or in the very near future.
